Gold Coast

The Gold Coast district is located in Chicago’s Near North Side community area and is roughly bounded by North Avenue, Lake Shore Drive, Oak Street, and Clark Street. In the late 1980s, the Gold Coast and neighboring Streeterville comprised the second most-affluent neighborhood in the United States, behind Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Today, the neighborhood is a mixture of mansions, row houses, and high-rise apartments.

If you fancy yourself an upscale shopper, take a stroll down Oak Street and revel in the internationally recognized stores, luxurious boutiques, and rare designer fashions. If all that shopping makes you hungry, you can stop at one of the district’s many celebrated restaurants, including Michelin-starred winners and classic Chicago steakhouses.
